Having grown up in a Welsh-Italian family, appreciation of good food and quality ingredients is second nature to Alessandro. His parents and grandparents all ran their own businesses within the catering industry and the opening of Canales Seafood and Deli feels like a natural progression.

Frustrated with the lack of fresh seafood, Welsh produce and quality ingredients available in the Canton area, Alessandro endeavoured to open a shop which catered for the food lover.

Whilst locating premises in the Canton area, Alessandro developed the concept of the shop further and decided to stock other quality ingredients that would compliment the seafood. As a result he set about researching and sourcing a range of suppliers that will provide quality ingredients that are not available in supermarkets and other shops in the local area.

As well as preparing the seafood to customers’ requirements, Canale's also provides customers with information, in the form of booklets and leaflets, about types of seasonal seafood, cooking methods, nutritional information and recipe ideas, all of which are available in both Welsh and English.

To encourage customers to try different types of fish Canale’s will be promoting a ‘recipe of the month’, where all the ingredients needed to make a selected seafood dish will be available to buy, along with a recipe card. To involve the local community further Canale’s will be holding tasting sessions and workshops on how to prepare and cook different types of fish. Canale’s operates a ‘call and collect’ scheme where customers may place an order and collect it at a specified time. This is made even more convenient by the later opening times of Canale's (6pm, monday - friday).The shop also advertises an even wider range of more specialist seafood such as lobster, shark and smoked fish, which can be ordered and collected from the shop.

Future plans include a delivery service and an online ordering facility.
